Beds are an Oasis, a place to retreat, too rest after long journeys, busy days and a place of solace.
So to make a perfect bed, it needs to match one’s personal styles, there space and to provide ultimate comfort.
At United Strangers our beds tend to be slightly lower than normal beds but with thick comfy headboards, we find that our beds are being purchased for homes with medium foot prints so we don’t want a bed to feel over bearing in a space or oversize for that room.
Thicker headbands help with comfort as you can add large blocks of foam, feather and fibre infill’s so that the bed almost becomes another sofa extension but in the bed room.
The right bed usually starts with the form, there are many different styles of mattresses on the market so we aim to provide bold statement beds which are usually made up of one material, from the head board to frame, to ensure simplicity, that acts as a canvas for the mattress and sheets. We feel this lends to creating a bed which is clear in its form and is balanced.
Lately we have been working with natural nubuck leathers on beds, this material has a soft suede feel on the top of the leather and this brings a sense of coolness to the touch, once combined with a soft foam and fibre mix, this lends itself to the natural shapes of the body.
When looking for complimentary furniture for the bed and accessories we tend to suggest using bold side tables with contrasting materials, we have been using acrylic a lot lately which due to its transparency it makes the room feel larger and brighter, using acrylic helps as most dwellings now have reading lights and this helps to showcase the transparency of the material.
We always like to use a woollen carpet the end of the bed, we use 100% natural New Zealand wool as this is the first material your foot touches when waking up so its nice to have that material with depth.
United Strangers Beds are designed for smaller to medium size spaces, we use certified wooden base systems, solid wood headboards with long lasting foams and fibres and finish our products with the most natural materials possible, from wool to cotton to leather. We also try to design our beds with loose covers and this helps to hide all joining lines and creates a cleaner styled bed.
